Learning Workshops

These specialized one time offerings are built into our schedule to address unique needs that are shared by many.  Workshops offer activities for small groups (typically two to eight students) led by an adult who facilitates learning on topics that matter to you.   Check our monthly calendar for a workshop that may match your interest or use our contact form to suggest a topic that you would like to see offered soon!

 Our featured offerings:

  • Drivers Temp Test Bootcamp - brush up on the knowledge needed to pass the Ohio driver's temp test using materials and methods designed to increase comprehension.  This series of courses are designed for students who will need some extra support to pass or have attempted and failed the temp test.

  • Cooking Basics - get a foundational skills needed to make simple snacks and meals.  This class is offered for various age groups, abilities and kitchen topics.  Sign up for one or more that fit your interest and schedule.  

  • Resume Writing - getting a job is a huge milestone in a teen's life.  This one hour workshop helps teens looking for entry level employment create a resume and application resource guide to support the job search process.  Participants will need to complete assignments to gather background information ahead of time and come prepared to assemble things into their resume (ex: bring contact information for potential references).

  • Job Search Organization - students who are ready to look for their first job will work 1:1 with a staff member to plan their strategy and prepare for the interviews and applications.  This workshop typically is done individually or with one other student in person then has weekly follow up virtual check-ins to support the job search process. 

  • Daily Living Skills Instruction - after completion of an initial evaluation of Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) students will use the house setting to learn basis they will need to live more independently including laundry, housekeeping and general maintenance, making & keeping appointments, money management, health and hygiene and access to community resources.

Pre-Employment Transition Services

Pre-Employment Transition Services are available to high school students who are eligible or potentially eligible for OOD services between the ages of 14-22. These services described below are intended to help students with disabilities who have an identified need get an early start in exploring career interests. Each Pre-ETS service is 8 hours long and can be scheduled at your convenience; evenings, weekends or even during school study halls.  Speak with your school's transition coordinator or intervention specialist to see if this service would be appropriate for your high school student.

  • Job Exploration Counseling - students identify where they are in the career planning process by completing interest inventories, informational interviews, research in-demand jobs, explore employment options and other planning tools to determine next steps.

  • Work Based Learning - students will participate in worksite tours (virtually and in person) and job shadowing experiences at community businesses to obtain first hand knowledge of the work setting.  (currently not scheduling until Summer 2024)

  • Counseling on Post-Secondary Opportunities - students will learn about varying degrees and industry credentials that can be earned through training programs, community colleges and universities.  They will learn about the application and admissions process, disability related services and financial aid (FASFA).  

​

  • Workplace Readiness Training - students will be instructed on expected work behaviors to obtain a job (applications, interviews, resumes, social media) and how meet employer expectations once they are employed (timeliness, hygiene, interpersonal skills).  

​

  • Instruction in Self Advocacy - students will have an increased awareness of their rights and responsibilities.  They will learn leadership skills to support success in the workplace and community and increase independence and self advocacy skills
