Our Approach
Hummingbird House instructors design each session with intentional teaching and experiential learning in mind. They are focused on creating a plan to instruct students with a specific learning goal or developmental outcome in mind. In our home based setting, students can experience hands on experiences by using real-world, practical activities to connect their abilities into skills. We strive to offer topics that matter to help our students grow.
Background
After spending years in the public education setting, it was clear that there are just some skills that you can’t master in a school setting. With the changing requirements and curricular changes in our local schools, some of the most valuable skills are glossed over or completely missed. We have seen many students miss out of the fun parts of school to receive tutoring, related services or other interventions being pulled from art, music, PE, electives or their lunch/social time in school. There were also other topics that were completely absent from some programming that we wanted to supplement such as social skills groups and activities for those who might not yet have the skills or interest to join in other community activities.
The Property
Hummingbird House is located in Brown Township/Hilliard, OH with easy access from all of Central Ohio. Originally a private residence with a horse farm attached, this space allows for us to be creative in our programming and offerings in a quiet, safe setting.

Why a House?
We wanted a comfortable feel that was uniquely different from a school or clinic setting to provide services. Hummingbird House has turned the bedrooms into individual and small group learning spaces, our kitchen is now a life skills lab, the sun room transformed into a large group workshop space and the living room is a cozy waiting area for parents while they wait. Where better to learn daily living skills than a house!
